Kitchen Desk/Command Center

IMG_7117
When we moved into our home, I wanted a desk in the kitchen. My wonderful husband and father decided to make the desk themselves. My husband also restored the white cabinets from the house that was torn down to build our new home. (Read more of that story here.)

The area is finally complete, just the way I want it. It makes bill-paying easier and gives me a place to pile things I intend to do (piles drive my husband crazy!)

Things I’ve made pictured above: chalkboard sign/dry erase calendar/covered desk chair

And those frames? They weren’t originally part of the décor theme…I’ve piled them there as they await glass to fit. But I thought they look kind of neat for awhile. Until I get around to cutting some glass.

Just thought I’d share the finished look. I am wondering if it needs a cork board (beside the lamp). Thoughts?

  4. Love this!!! I have been making some dry erase and chalkboards out of old antique windows. Something like that would be too cute here!! Love the wood they used for the desk! Gorgeous! PS- I like the empty frames there.. I thinkk you should keep it like that! :)

    1. Maybe I will leave them there! I like the empty frames, too. I have another space in my house to share soon that also has empty frames.

    1. That would be a fun use for one of the frames! I did make a cork board for my son's room using an old frame (link is here: http://monkeyseemonkeydo-jennifer.blogspot.com/2012/02/old-picture-frame-into-cork-board.html) and it is very easy...I'll have to think about it for this desk!

  8. This looks great! I would love a spot like this in my kitchen, but no room! Your message board looks very similar in shape to the one I redid here: http://thingsthatarepretty.blogspot.ca/2012/09/chalkboard-update-and-fancy-chalk.html
I think cork board would be very useful for sticking notes and little tidbits of info/lists.
